Roger Melko

Roger Melko hopes to inform the design of new materials and information systems using Quantum Many Body Physics. His research has led to the development of numerous pieces of software that have been made freely available to other academics. [dropcap style=””]M[/dropcap]elko is a Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo, Associate Faculty at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics and a Canada Research Chair in Computational Quantum Many Body Physics. His research is focused on carrying out out large-scale computer simulations to explore the properties of lattice models of quantum matter. Compute Canada infrastructure is an absolutely integral part of this research and is used to support a number of simulation techniques developed to solve interacting quantum systems, including quantum Monte Carlo, exact diagonalization, and linked-cluster expansions. Dr. Melko’s has been invited to present his research at several international talks. The results have potential to impact Canadians by giving theoretical input to the design and characterization of 21st-century materials and information systems. This research is highly dependent on large amounts of Compute Canada infrastructure to perform the large-scale simulations necessary to address the challenging questions posed by quantum many body systems.
